Universal Orlando's Jurassic Park River Adventure is undergoing a major refurbishment, and new aerial photos offer a glimpse into the extensive work taking place behind the construction walls. The attraction, which has been closed since January, is set to reopen on November 20, 2026. The photos reveal that Universal is not replacing the classic ride with something entirely new, but rather giving it a major refresh while keeping the beloved experience intact.
One of the most interesting discoveries is a partial water test, suggesting that Universal has begun testing portions of the attraction's systems. The iconic dinosaur, Ultrasaur, is undergoing a complete overhaul, with its familiar exterior removed to expose the bright mechanical framework underneath. The white metal armature for the dinosaur's neck has been installed, leading many fans to believe that Universal is rebuilding the figure rather than simply repairing it.
The baby Stegosaurus has also been undergoing work, with portions of its facial covering removed to improve its moving components. The adult Stegosaurus has temporarily disappeared during construction, likely receiving work backstage before returning later in the project. Despite rumors of a Jurassic World makeover, the latest construction photos confirm that the iconic opening scene remains in place, and Universal is preserving the original Jurassic Park storyline.
Beyond the dinosaurs, the aerial photos reveal plenty of other work taking place throughout the attraction, including repairs and refinishing of exterior walls, weatherproofing materials, and pumps and sections of the water system. Boats remain staged both on the attraction and backstage, indicating that testing will continue over the coming months. The large show building remains largely unknown, with Universal staying quiet about the exact enhancements guests can expect.
The biggest surprise may be that Universal is not reinventing Jurassic Park River Adventure. Instead, the company is focused on replacing aging animatronics, refreshing mechanical systems, repairing infrastructure, and restoring effects that have deteriorated over the attraction's decades of operation. This approach makes sense, as many fans would rather see the classic experience restored than replaced.
